What another busy month we’ve had here in our ‘Babies and Toddlers room’, such a fun filled month where the children have been endlessly exploring their outdoor environment.
Last month we enjoyed learning about the culture and traditions of the Chinese and their New Year Festival celebrations. The children had a special visit form the Highland Park Library where they learnt about “the year of the monkey” and sang a couple of Chinese songs.
One of our main interests this month has been around physical education. The children have shown a huge interest towards the bats and balls! They are learning to be confident within themselves and are continuing to master the art of throwing, kicking and catching. All the teachers have been proud to observe the children taking control of their own bodies and I think we may have some up and coming sports star’s here at Rockabye.
Another one of our on-going interests is ‘Bugs’. The children can not get enough of bugs! We have had a great time learning about different types of bugs that live in our gardens and the children have been turning the garden upside down looking for any creepy crawlies. During our mat times we’ve also been reading some bug and insect stories. The children have particularly enjoyed observing the swan plant, watching the caterpillars get fatter and fatter each day and they are beginning to relate this to one of their all time favourite stories “The very hungry caterpillar”. Through conversation, exploration and wonder, we were able to further enhance the children’s understanding towards life and living things.
Finally, your junk is our treasure, we would love for you to bring in any recycled recycled milk containers, handi towel rolls and yoghurt pots. These resources the children are loving to use in their everyday play.
