Our Childcare Centre in Highland Park caters for babies, toddlers and preschoolers. We are close to Howick, Bucklands Beach, Pakuranga and Botany.
Finger painting, Gloop and Slime
The Preschool team have been up to a lot over the past month. The children have developed new interests, and taken part in many wonderful activities.
Our current interests in the Preschool room are: Messy play, physical education and mat times. Teachers in the Preschool room have been supporting preschoolers to extend their interests by providing meaningful activities that encourage children to take some responsibility for their own learning, as well as problem solve.
Our messy play activities are a great hit at the moment. The teachers have provided different materials such as shaving foam, finger painting, gloop and slime to allow our children to explore their interest and get down and messy. Children have been learning about different textures, and maths concepts such as weight and volume as they let different materials slip and slide though their fingers.
Physical Education is a great way for the Preschool children to use their energy in a way where they are learning about their body. Teachers have been encouraging children to take safe risks when climbing, and trying new challenging experiences. Preschoolers are enjoying getting physical and playing cricket, soccer, skipping and even having running races. Teaching children about a healthy lifestyle includes being physical. Children are learning about how to keep their body healthy and in shape. The children had a fantastic time with Kindy Rock who came to visit us and the children loved having a boogie and singing new songs.
Lisa has introduced some new songs and mat time activities to our Preschoolers. The children are enjoying the song “I am a pizza” and playing with our parachute.
Our new ‘tidy up time’ monitors chart has been very successful. Preschoolers are demonstrating great tidy up skills, and team work. The children are taking more responsibility for their belongings and classroom. (Hopefully this may brush off and you will reap the rewards for this at home).
We look forward to seeing you on the 11th & 12th May for our 'Parent Interviews'.
